University of Mumbai started new panel to address exam department problems
The beleaguered University of Mumbai has appointed a committee to look into the working of the examination department and suggest how it can improve. Headed by the former vice-chancellor of SNDT University, Rupa Shah, the terms of reference of this committee are rather broad: looking at the present scenario of examinations and suggesting steps that can better its functioning.
The founding of this committee was announced by vice-chancellor Rajan Welukar during the recent senate meeting when he suspended seven Yuva Sena members. Apart from Shah, 15 other members, including principals, deans and senate members, will study the gaps that bog the exam house, which makes it "one of the most inefficient arms of the university", said a committee member.
S M Suryavanshi, the in-charge controller of examinations, said there was no time frame laid down for this committee to submit its report, but hoped that the report would be ready in around two months.
The start of this exam season has been stormy. Apart from the committee that was set up to look into the leakage of the marketing and human resource management paper for TYBCom students, the other committee, set up to inquire into delayed hall tickets and change of exam centres, has not yet submitted its report.
